A regulatory filing to the California EPA’s Air Resources Board reveals that Ducati has plans for a new Multistrada 1200 model for the 2012 model year. In addition to the base, S and recently introduced Pikes Peak model, a Multistrada 1200S Corse model is noted in the documentation.

Despite only being launched in April 2010, almost 1 in every 4 new Ducatis sold last year was a Multistrada 1200. The Bologna entry in the Soft Roader market was a resounding sales success for Ducati showing that the company’s bets on product development and investment in a challenging economy paid off.
Ducati has issued a second recall notice for the new Ducati Multistrada 1200. This one relates to the engine stalling whilst the bike is stationary and the engine idling. Ducati appears to have acted on customer feedback for the 2011 Ducati Multistrada 1200 just announced at the Intermot show in Cologne, Germany. The changes are small but likely to be well received with some of them being offered to 2010 model year owners as a retrofit.

Pierre Terblanche is no longer working for Ducati (to the huge relief of many) but is now plying his designer’s trade over at Moto Guzzi. Recently he spoke on the new Ducati Multistrada 1200 from his perspective of designer of the original air-cooled Multistrada 1100.
