We have written before about the business bomb that was the Ducati 999 which was rapidly replaced with the highly successful 1098/1198 series of Superbikes. There is one area however where the 999 range reigns supreme. Surprisingly it is in racing.

Michael Rutter and RidersMotorcycles.com team mate, Martin Jessopp took the first two positions on their Ducati 1198Rs during the 58th running of the iconic Macau Grand Prix. In taking victory, Rutter became the winningest racer at the street circuit, surpassing the record he had held jointly with Ron Haslam.

The Rapid Solicitors-Bathams Ducati team returned to the podium at Brands Hatch last weekend as Michael Rutter took a strong second place in the first of the three MCE Insurance British Superbike Championship races to close in on the top six in the overall standings.

Carlos Checa celebrated a double podium at the Automotodrom of Brno today; the Spanish rider achieved two very well deserved third place finishes at what is, for him and his 1198, one of the most difficult tracks on the SBK calendar. Despite the success his rivals Max Biaggi and Marco Melandri closed the points gap.
