The Italian and Spanish motorcycle press seem to share at least one thing in common, a philosophy on news that says never let the truth get in the way of a good story. And Ducati is the favorite company to proclaim news about. This time it is a supposed merger of Ducati and Piaggio. I suppose it would allow the company to cover both World Superbike Championship bases: Ducati for twins and Aprilia for V4s!

Hector Barbera’s Ducati Desmosedici GP10 racer won’t be hard to spot this season. The Aspar team run by Jorge Martinez has the Spanish Yellow Pages (‘Paginas Amarillas Aspar Team’) as its major sponsor, hence the bright yellow color. Barbera is one of 5 Ducati riders in this year’s MotoGP championship which kicks off at Losail, Qatar on April 11th.

Ducati News Today likes to highlight older Ducatis like this 750 Sport Desmo Special. This beautiful machine was based on a 750GT which had a valve spring engine and a some point upgraded to a tuned Desmo engine with over 80bhp at the wheel!

Ruben Xaus didn’t race at the season opener of the 2010 World Superbike Championship at Phillip Island recently but he sure had an impact – literally. Xaus didn’t participate in either race after 3 practice crashes and this one, taking out Team Xerox factory Ducati 1198R rider, Noriyuki Haga in the morning warmup. Haga shrugged off the very high speed crash to take 3rd and 5th in the 2 races later that same day. Ruben, known for being hard on equipment (again, literally) is thought to be in a very delicate situation now with his employer BMW. The video is after the jump.

Motorcycle News, admittedly known for its hyperbole, claims “The 2010 Ducati Multistrada is so good, it heralds a new era, moving motorcycle design onto the next stage.” Bold claim. Could it be true?
