Conditions were very mixed today at the TT Circuit of Assen where the third round of the World Superbike Championship is taking place this weekend. The Althea Racing team is ready for the challenge that bad weather may present, and will line up on race day with its two riders Carlos Checa and Davide Giugliano.

Althea Racing riders Carlos Checa and Davide Giugliano both took part in this afternoon’s Superpole session at the Imola track. 2011 World champion Checa was very strong in each of the three phases and his performance was rewarded when he secured third position for tomorrow’s two 21-lap races.
We have written before about the business bomb that was the Ducati 999 which was rapidly replaced with the highly successful 1098/1198 series of Superbikes. There is one area however where the 999 range reigns supreme. Surprisingly it is in racing.

Saturday saw a tragic start to the 2012 World Superbike championship when a serious accident occurred during the Australian championship’s Superstock 600 race this afternoon at Phillip Island, proving fatal for young rider Oscar McIntyre, from Queensland, Australia. Having completed a three-day test session at the Phillip Island track only last week, team Althea Racing returned to the same circuit today for the final, official tests before the 2012 championship’s opening round gets underway this coming weekend.
The first of two February testing sessions concluded today at the Australian circuit of Phillip Island with extremely positive results for the Althea Racing team. Carlos Checa, 2011 World Champion, recorded the fastest overall times while ‘new-entry’ Davide Giugliano made consistent progress throughout the three-day test.
