Following his victory in the first race today of the Magny Cours round of the World Superbikes, Althea Ducati’s Carlos Checa finally took his first ever world title as he was crowned 2011 World Superbike Champion.

The eleventh round of the World Superbike Championship got underway today at the Autodromo di Imola and championship leader Carlos Checa got straight down to business, concluding the morning’s practice session in first position and the afternoon’s qualifying in second.
Ducati’s newly announced name for its 2012 Superbike, the 1199 Panigale, will be available next year after it debuts November 10th at the EICMA show in Milan. However fans will have to wait until 2013 to see the bike turn a wheel in the World Superbike Championship.
