Il Ducatista magazine has a spy shot of what appears to be the first liquid cooled, 4 valve Ducati Hypermotard, with an 848 engine .
The addition of a testastretta 11º version of the smaller Superbike power plant in the Streetfighter 848 has always meant that there would be further proliferation of this smaller engine in the Ducati range. With the Superquadro power plant powering the flagship Ducati 1199 Panigale, the testastretta evoluzione is now free to be spread liberally amongst the remainder of the model range.
Although we have expected that the life of the 2-valve Ducati range must be relatively short lived thanks to the always increasingly stringent noise and emission regulations throughout the world, Ducati News Today had anticipated a Multistrada 848 to be the most obvious next Ducati model. We still expect it.
This spy shot however does look very much like a 848 powered Ducati Hypermotard. Although the trellis frame is unlike the current Hypermotard and the rear section is very reminisecent of the Multistrada, the giveaway is the shape of the seat, the front side pods and the beak front mudguard. The wheels also feature the Hypermotard’s Y spoke rims.
Expect the engine to be near identical save for exhaust packaging to the power plant in the Streetfighter 848 which should give the hooligans’ Ducati even more thrust to play with and let the Hypermotard catch up to the performance of the similarly 130hp strong Aprilia Dorsoduro 1200.
