Despite the fact that Ducati will not homologate the 1199 Panigale for World Superbike competition in 2012, thanks to one enterprising race team fans will be able to cheer on the new Ducati Superbike in a high profile national championship.  Moto Rapido will enter not one but two of the new Bologna Bullets into the BSB for the 2012 season.

Moto Rapido entered the BSB EVO championship last year with Scott Smart taking 5th in the points standings.  With the controversial new rules for 2012 (single set of regulations that includes no traction control with a spec ECU), the team will enter two Ducati 1199 Panigale bikes and with the blessing and backing of Ducati.

“It has been a massive shift for us in the past two years. We’ve come from being a small dealer team to a Ducati supported effort in BSB. I am so proud of what we have achieved in the past couple of seasons and long may it continue. The technical support from Italy has been excellent and we are looking forward to working closer with them this year.  With Ducati’s help and the backing of our two main sponsors Solent Scientific and Key2 Group, there is no reason we can’t be giving last year’s front-runners a hard time. In the history of the series the playing field has never been as level as it is now for 2012.”

No riders have been named at this stage but with the Panigale boasting such impressive specification on paper there should be a rush of racing resumes heading Moto Rapido’s way!

The Ducati factory will field a team in the 2012 FIM Superstock championship and plans to homologate the Panigale for the World Superbike championship in 2013.
