If you frequent some Ducati forums you will inevitably run into questions from folks who clearly either believe or at least suspect that you must have a Ducati 1198SP, if not an R, to partake in a Track Day. Umm, no as this Ducati Monster S4RS rider ably demonstrates.

The phrase ‘its the rider stupid’ is no more apt than at the race track. Machinery naturally becomes important if you have the talent for a top 10 finish in a national series but failing that the best rider will usually be fastest in a track day scenario no matter what they are riding.

This guy rails through the turns with an impressive style and visibly demonstrates that you if you’ve got the skill pretty much any Ducati has got the way. My own experience mirrors this. On my own Monster S4RS I’ve laid waste to a Ducati Desmosedici RR at the fast Roebling Road circuit near Savannah, GA and I’ve had my ass handed to me on the very same circuit by a professional racer Nate Kearn on a BMW HP2 Sport. The bike doesn’t matter.

So if you want to try a track day I urge you to give it a go. You’ll have a lot of fun and it won’t matter whether you have a Monster 696 or a Desmosedici RR.
