If you always thought you could create a kick ass Streetfighter out of a Ducati Desmoseidici RR you now have your chance. A sad and wrecked example of Ducati’s 2008 MotoGP refugee is about to be auctioned off.
Even today, the 2008 Ducati Desmosedici RR remains the most hardcore Ducati ever released, being essentially a replica of the motorcycle that won the last ever 990cc MotoGP race in Valencia in 2006 with Ducati Hero Troy Bayliss at the controls. It remains the closest bike you can buy to a true MotoGP racer. Just 1,500 were produced.
This example has obviously come to a very sudden stop judging by the buckled Ohlins fork legs, bent front discs and general explosion of the front end body work. Want to know how many miles are on it? Well that would be tricky since the odometer status is listing as “missing”. Smashed is perhaps a more accurate description.
The bike will be auctioned off but as of yet, no date has been set. In the meantime if you want some inspiration, check out Oberdan Bezzi’s Desmofighter concept, this Desmosedici based trike or even Roland Sand’s Desmotracker. If you’re like me, you’ll tough it out to see if Ducati will build an 800cc V4 replica for 2012.
