Why You Don’t Want to be a Ducati Fan in Australia
Ducati is no doubt a premium brand and you need a reasonable amount of wedge to afford one. Exactly how much depends on where you live. After living in the USA for the last 7 years, I had forgotten much more expensive Ducatis are in Australia. Then the price list arrived in my inbox.

Say you’re in the market for a Ducati Monster. How about the new Monster 1100EVO. Price in the USA? $11,995. In Australia you will be asked to pay AUD 17,990 ($19,250). That is a 60% premium! How about a new Ducati Diavel Carbon. The black model has an MSRP of $19,995 in the USA. Price in Australia? AUD 28,990 ($31,019). Much better with just a 55% premium. You getting the picture?
Naturally the price of bikes in smaller markets is higher due to many factors such as local sales taxes, shipping costs and lower economies of scale. In many cases, the exchange rate can be to blame but at the moment the Australian dollar is more valuable than the US one and more importantly just as strong against the Euro. Ouch! To all the Ducatisti in Australia. Respect!

I lived in Jakarta from 2007-2010 and when I arrived I checked the price of a new 696 Monster… USD39,000.
I ended up buying a 2002 S4 Monster for around USD17,000.
Madness.
