It turned out that the rear rim shattered. The race director rather ungenerously labelled Berger’s spectacular exit a crash. Check out the video after the jump.

The rim was an Oz Racing item that apparently was relatively new.

“The wheel that failed had only been used in a few races,” team manager Daniele Soncini said.
