Ducati 1198RS Drag Racer Sounds Like the Diavel
The Ducati 1198RS is the most sophisticated Ducati Superbike a mere mortal can get their hands on short of a factory ride. Most of them cut hots laps around the World’s greatest racetracks at the hands of well connect and fast privateers. This one only goes in a straight line. Any sounds awesome doing it.
We’ve got a thing here at Ducati News Today for Ducati Drag Racers. This is very strange since I personally have little interest in drag racing but what can you do? A comment on our Ducati Bunberry 749 Turbo story from one Herman Jolink led us to his website and his creation.
I thought the Aussies were crazy but clearly the Dutch have the disease too. Herman and his team have built a drag bike powered by a 1,266cc Ducati 1198RS engine running on 4, count them, 4 38mm Dell Orto carburetors! This year marks the 36th year that Herman has been drag racing Ducati motorcycles so he is a pioneer.
The bike weighs just 145kg (319lb) ready to run, makes goodness knows how much power and has covered the quarter mile in 8.275 seconds at 160mph. Think the new Ducati Diavel is fast off the line? Getting to 60mph in 2.6 seconds is indeed rapid but not a patch on Herman’s Devil. His bike hits 62mph (100km/h) in 1.187 seconds. Yes that’s less than half the time. And it sounds like the Diavel himself as you can hear in the video below. The payoff is at the very end.
