I’m Sorry Ducati but the 1100EVO is Not the Ultimate Monster

Ducati Monster 1100EVO Black thumb Im Sorry Ducati but the 1100EVO is Not the Ultimate MonsterDucati is claiming that their new for 2011 Ducati Monster 1100EVO is the Ultimate Monster but how do I put this……they’re wrong.

Maybe the 100bhp 1100EVO is the ultimate Monster you can buy today (or tomorrow) but the Ultimate Monster of all time is still the 2007 Monster S4RS. Yes, just like the one I own. I’m not biased or anything. As nice as the air-cooled powerplants are (and I like the Monster 1100S very much), there is no substitute to satisfaction that can only come from experiencing the violence of a testastretta engine unleashed in the pretty naked chassis of the old Monster, which itself was based on the 851 trellis.

web4 thumb Im Sorry Ducati but the 1100EVO is Not the Ultimate MonsterWith 130bhp at the crank standard, or nearer 150 once you fit the more or less mandatory full Termignoni system, the Monster S4Rs will forever remain the über Monster. There, I said it. I feel better now. Please carry on.

  1. And it’s even more true while we know that the 1100EVO lost the dry clutch system… (At least, it still has the trellis frame and the Desmo !!)

  2. Can’t agree more, i’ve got the S2R800 with Termis etc and would even call that more monster than this, despite only 90bhp after tuning and bits…the S*R series just look soooo much better, and you’re right, the S4Rs is the business. Any S*R is better than the “new” shape ones on looks alone. I’ve been saving my pennies for getting a S4Rs in summer as IMHO, you don’t get any better than that monster wise.

  3. arrgh! yeah, why no dry clutch! again!

  4. Agreed. Period. Dry clutch rattle and tubular swingarm. Best-looking naked bike EVER, not to mention performance.
As a current-generation Monster owner, I have to say looks have gone drastically downhill in the past three years.
That being said, does anyone have a last-generation Monster headlight they want to sell me?

  5. I agree the air-cooled Monsters look cleaner but the motorcycle is transformed with the 150bhp engine. I did enjoy riding an early Monster 750 though, but thought the Monster 1100 was just too tame for my tastes (more than enough power for the street in reality though). After you own a 4-valve Monster the various hose and crap start to look purposeful. Rationalization is a beautiful thing :)

  6. that is exactly why my multistrada is powered by a S4RS engine ;)
