Last year we told you about the aircooled Ducati V8 that talented German Diter Hartmann Wirthwein was working on. It seems that now he has finished and will be unveiling the final product at the Intermot show this week in Germany.
As he promised, he has a patent for a unique conrod arrangement that allows an original 900SS crankshaft to be used and consequently the powerplant can fit in a 900SS frame! His Ducati Elenore project is utilizing a 900SS rolling chassis and 8, 2-valve, cylinders with a bore and stroke of 56 and 44mm respectively for a total capacity of 868cc. Note that the valve actuation is not desmodromic.
From the drawing, you can see the outer pistons connected by a pivoting rod, but what is hard to see is how the connecting rod is connected to the inner pistons so as not to interfere with the pivot rod. It would be really helpful to see some other perspective drawings, but it looks ingenious.
