New Ducati Power Cruiser to be known as Diavel
MCN is reporting this morning that the new Ducati Power Cruiser that has been been the subject of an orchestrated ‘leak’ pre-marketing campaign will not be known as the Vyper or Mega-Monster (always a doubtful one) but instead as the Diavel.
Apparently Diavel is Italian for Devil but is from the Bolognese dialect rather than the more usual Italian Diavolo. MCN reports that Diavel has been trademarked in a range of classes including apparel, clothing and watches. No link is provided and Ducati News Today was unable to find any evidence of the trademark in the United States Patent and Trademark Office database after a cursory search.
The choice of name, if correct, probably more than anything else highlights how difficult it is to find names that can be trademarked globally these days. Trademarks need to be cleared in every market and also be easy to pronounce and not be offensive in a number of languages (cue the Mitsubishi Pajero story). So even though Vyper would seem on the face of it to be a much better name, Diavel it may just have to be. Unfortunately the Drivel jokes have already begun!

Saw one of these in Rome last September. Actually, I heard it first: quite loud with that distinctive Ducati pulse but very low and long for a Ducati. Definitely a Ducati cruiser and definitely the same bike as in the photos.
@Doug very cool. Pity you didn’t snap the photos or you would have been famous
@rino. I love your suggestion. Great name!

In Bolognese the word Devil is written “Dièvel”, not “Diavel”. Don’t know why they changed it.
@Rino: They obviously didn’t want an italian name, given that they chose a different LANGUAGE
