How to find out Everything about the Ducati you Covet
If you are at all like me, you can decide at almost any time that your life won’t be complete without a certain something. I’m talking about Ducatis, what did you think I was talking about? Lately I’ve been coveting the 851 / 888. You can’t find anything to read about it these days but plenty was said back in the late 80′s and early 90′s Where to find that stuff today?
I recently found two great sources of back issue magazine material organized around a particular model of interest that I thought was worth sharing. The first is MidLifeClassicCars.com. Despite its name the site has a selection of motorcycle material. It is fairly limited in the Ducati realm but had just what I was looking for.
The Ducati 851 & 888 Performance Portfolio is a nicely compiled and bound book that contains major magazine coverage of the 851 and 888 model ranges from magazines such as the now defunct Cycle and Motorcycle International through to Performance Bikes, BIKE and Fast Bikes (back when it was awesome). Even Australia’s Two Wheels makes an appearance. After devouring its 136 pages I am a walking expert system on the model ready to bore anyone in 5 minutes straight. All this for $21 plus modest shipping charges.
Another solution is to browse to Motorcycle Reports. Here a much broader array of content is available. You can purchase a reprint of a single article, an individual back order issue or an amalgam of articles on a particular model compiled into a giant PDF and sent to you for instant gratification. My test example was on the 1986 Honda VFR750 (don’t ask) and provided 110 pages for the very same $21. Unlike MidLifeClassicCars, only US magazine content is referenced so you lose the European flavor and the formatting and presentation isn’t a patch on the former but the content is good. I then decided to get something Ducati related and chose the 750 Sport and 750SS offering. There was a hiccup in the delivery of the PDF by email but this was quickly resolved by email. It made for great reading in iBooks on my iPad.
Twenty odd dollars seems a small investment to satisfy a whim for awhile or get you ready to haggle for the bike of your dreams! dream away
