Can Rossi Win at Brno?

motogp race brno 2009 thumb Can Rossi Win at Brno?Brno in the Czech Republic is the next round of the MotoGP championship but most of the interest for the moment is not centering around the racing but instead, the planned announcement of Valentino Rossi’s future. Rossi has said he will tell the world where he will ride next year during the meeting. He is widely anticipated to have signed for Ducati. But what of his chances in the race itself?

Rossi won the opening round of the series this year at Losail, Qatar and took two more podiums (2nd and 3rd) before crashing in practice at Mugello with the result being a compound fracture of his right tibia and fibia.

Brno was expected to be his first race back, instead he got back on track early taking a 4th at the Sachensring (Casey Stoner passed him on the final turn) and followed that up with another podium at Laguna Seca. With two races under his belt, including one podium and a 3 week summer break before next weekends Brno race, is Rossi a credible candidate for victory?

Rossi certainly has form at the circuit. He has won 5 times out of the last 9 races there and has won 2 of the 3 800cc races including the last two. Last year he started from pole and ran at the front dicing with team mate Jorge Lorenzo before Lorenzo crashed out.

With the title gone for 2010 (barring a force majeure) Rossi is left with victories as his goal as he strives to reach and surpass his hero Giacomo Agostini as the winningest Grand Prix racer of all time. Ducati News Today believes Rossi will go all out to show the world he is back and stand on top of the box this Sunday, August 15th. Wouldn’t that be a nice way to head into a press conference to announce his move to Ducati?
