How Much? Rossi Already has the F1 Guys Beat in Earnings

Rossi and egg 2009 thumb How Much? Rossi Already has the F1 Guys Beat in EarningsValentino Rossi is always in the news. Lately it has been his stunning comeback from a compound leg fracture and of course his impending move to Ducati. Now Sports Illustrated has published its list of highest earning International Athletes and Rossi finishes off the podium in 7th but blows F1 drivers away.

Although no-one can hold a candle to to Tiger Woods (with $90 million in annual earnings), Rossi’s $35,000,000 still isn’t bad coming in 7th behind soccer, boxing, MLB and tennis star Roger Federer. What is particularly interesting though is that Rossi manages to out qualify his motor-sport colleagues in high profile Formula 1, where many argue he may ultimately end up (in a Ferrari of course).

Lewis Hamilton, Kimi Räikkönen, Jensen Button and Fernando Alonso all make the top 20 list but each of them earns about $10,000,000 less than Vale. Don’t expect Rossi to take a paycut however if he does eventually cross over to 4 wheels.

John Surtees is the only person to have triumphed at the highest level on both 2 and 4 wheels. Surtess took 7 Grand Prix titles on motorcycles before winning the 1964 F1 championship, in a Ferrari.
