Gorgeous Road Going NCR Ducati New Blue
The NCR New Blue is a gorgeous tribute to Cook Neilson’s 1977 Daytona victory on a Ducati 750SS known as Old Blue. Just 50 were made and available from Ducati dealers for $67,000. The bike was sold as a track only bike, but this one has been converted for road use. Checkout the gallery after the jump.
The base for the NCR New Blue is the Ducati Sport 1000S, completely tuned by NCR and made lighter in all its parts, reaching a weight of 150 kg compared to the 188 kg of the street legal model (that is a weight reduction of 38 kg, or over 25%), and the power has been increased by 40% reaching 116 HP. The engine is the new 1100NCR, components and braking system are of racing origin: everything is made in Ohlins, Brembo and Poggipolini Titanium. The exhaust system is an extraordinary titanium 2-1-2, weighing 4 kg.

My buddy owns the first bike of this series, it carries Cook’s original 31 number plate and his signature on the gas tank. it was the bike that was used in all the publicity photos and then raced by NCR at Daytona. It was clocked at something like 160mph on the back straight. they took it straight from Daytona to the show room in NYC where my buddy bought it, complete with dead bugs and tech inspection stickers on the wind screen, heavily chewed up slicks and race fuel in the tank. we’ve started it a couple of times and that Zard exhaust is the sweetest thing i think i have ever heard in my life. it now sits in a private collection with some very esteemed and rarified company, and has not even been cleaned after Daytona. now i know many of you are saying what pitiful stuff. “if that were my bike, i would ride it everyday.” but the truth is, when you can ride anything you want, including a 1980′s TT2 or a Desmosidici, the idea of putting this bad boy up, in “as is” condition, is actually really, really cool. just imagine dusting this one off in 20 years… dead bugs and all. it will be quite the collectors piece.

ah, that was funny. yes, i get to work on and ride some of the finest machines ever built. i am lucky to have friends with such good taste.
