Ducati Power Cruiser to use Multistrada 1200 Power?
With new spyshots appearing of the Ducati Power Cruiser that has been referred to variously as the Vyper or Mega-Monster, we can now speculate a few things about its specifications. Claims of 150bhp and the desire for a robust bottom-end and midrange power delivery probably mean the shove is going to come from the Multistrada 1200′s testastretta 11º powerplant.
I’ll let Ducati explain in more detail why the Multistrada 1200 engine produces more power than the 1198 up until 6,500rpm.
The 11º refers to the number of degrees of valve overlap. The overlap angle is defined as the interval of crankshaft rotation, measured in degrees, during which both the intake and exhaust valves are open at the same time. This overlap occurs between the end of the exhaust stroke and the start of the intake stroke. High performance engines, which are subject to compromising smoothness for extreme power delivery, use high values of this parameter in order to benefit from the pressure waves to improve engine performance by maximising volumetric efficiency.
On the new Testastretta 11° engine, this angle has been reduced from 41°, used in the Testastretta Evoluzione engine which powers the 1198, to just 11°. As a result, the fresh inlet charge flow is less compromised by the exiting exhaust gases, resulting in a much smoother combustion in addition to improved fuel economy and lower exhaust emissions. Unburnt hydrocarbon emissions (pre-catalyser) are reduced by up to 65% and specific fuel consumption (and consequent CO2 emissions) by up to 15% (Euro3).

You know it makes sense. In the photo you can also see the underslung rear shock and the big fat rear 200mm tire.
