Can Water Put Out a Ducati Fire?

Screen shot 2010 07 14 at 3 thumb.51.07 PM Can Water Put Out a Ducati Fire? Can water put out a fuel fire? Turns out, actually No. Don’t pour water on a fuel fire kids. This guy did on his 1984 Ducati 900 Mike Hailwood replica after a rubber line touched a hot pipe and caught fire and, well, it didn’t have a happy ending. Makes you want a chemical fire extinguisher handy doesn’t it? Videos after the jump.

It must have just been the rubber line that touched a pipe and caught fire. Stuck my nose between the fiberglass and the tank and saw a fire start on top of the crankcase on the left side. The fire burned green. I ran for towels to smother the fire but to no avail, it kept going. I then ran for a fire extinguisher, but in a panic, like a girl in a horror movie, i ran in circles. Grabbed the hose and by then the fire had caught the fuel line on the left side and it was over. Called the fire department and started taking videos and pictures and watched her burn.
