Brand New Ducati 996R For Sale
Talk about a once in a lifetime chance, here is probably the only 2001 Ducati 996R in existence that can genuinely be claimed to be new. This machine was prepared for storage when it was sold to its current owner and has never been fueled or started and been housed inside its whole life. Here is a chance to own the first ever testastretta powered Ducati Superbike.
The Ducati 996R was first offered for sale on September 12th, 2000 and most sold out immediately over the internet. All US examples, like this one, came without lights but with the wiring intact. The big deal about the 996R was the first ever use of the testastretta (narrow head) engine which went on to power the 998 and the 999 series after it.
The narrower, 25ยบ included valve angle finally freed the combustion chamber from what was still essentially the 851 based Desmo quattro engine. Although not as coveted as the later 998R which offered the short stroke engine, the 996R still remains a desirable machine. The bike is essentially a 996SPS rolling chassis with the new engine, although there were some changes such as upgraded brakes and the removal of the side fairing vent for aerodynamic reasons.
This machine was purchased in 2001 from BCM and prepared for storage. It has never been started outside of the factory and is in ‘as it left the factory condition’ including the same tires. It includes the 102db Termignoni mufflers. The asking price for this bike is $22,000 but the owner will accept offers. You can make contact via the Ducati.ms forum.
