How Fast is a Turbo Ducati 749 Dragbike?
Todd and Wayne Patterson of Ducati Bunberry in Australia like to challenge themselves when it comes to going as fast and as quickly as possible in a quarter mile – they do it with Ducati Superbikes. Their latest creation is a turbo charged Ducati 749 based drag bike which they hope will run in the mid 8 second range at 170mph!!
The Pattersons have some considerably credibility when it comes to drag racing Ducatis. Afterall they are the architects of the Ducati 1098R dragbike that we featured last year. They took that mildly modified homologation road racer to 155mph down the strip. This time they are adding forced induction to the picture.
The Ducati 749 was the little brother to the controversial Ducati 999 which caused the company so much drama prior to the release of the Tamburini-esque 1098 in 2007. Stock it makes 108bhp and weighs 188kg (415lb) but this bike will make around 280bhp and weigh just 135kg (297lb)!! With a projected mid 8 second pass and a terminal velocity of 170mph this long wheelbase, wheelie bar clad turbo Superbike should be fastest in its class given the engine capacity.
We will know soon enough, the guys say it will be ready in a couple of months and we’ll keep you in the loop as to how quick and how fast it goes. I want to hear what it sounds like too!!
