Factory NCR Ducati 900 F1 Racer For Sale
Older Ducatis are especially beautiful to my eye and racing ones even more so. It also turns out that many of the rarest Ducatis are also the easiest on the eye (think Ducati Supermono). Trawling around the web, I came across this mid 1970′s Factory NCR Ducat 900 Formula 1 racer. The same basic bike that Mike Hailwood took to victory in the 1978 Isle of Man TT. And its for sale!
During the dark economic times of the 1970′s, Ducati effectively outsourced its racing program to Scuderia NCR. With two strokes taking over in Grand Prix, Ducati turned its attention to the new Formula 1 four-stroke class and built the NCR 900 F1 racer. These beautiful round case bevel machines were made most famous by Mike Hailwood’s come back from retirement Isle of Man TT victory in 1978. Claimed power was 105bhp and the bikes were light at just 156kg (343lb) in endurance trim. No two of the bikes made between 1975 & 79 were exactly the same and they had different frames made by Daspa of Bologna.
The bike in the photographs is a works NCR bike from around 1975 or 1976 with it’s NCR special sand cast crank cases, it’s also sold with it’s early factory narrowed GT crank cases that failed early on in it’s racing life. Rob Noorlander who was a Dutch Ducati dealer in the 70’s and 80’s bought the bike from the factory with the original narrowed GT crank cases mounted in the bike, after a few months he received the new sand-cast crankcases according to Rob Noorlander the bike was only raced once by the factory and fell out because the crankcases didn’t hold.
It is available for sale for £120,000 (~$180,000).
