Ducati Multistrada 1200 vs Rivals: BMW, KTM, Triumph
“It’s quite expensive but worth every penny.” That’s the conclusion of Motorcycle News video after a comparison of the new Ducati Multistrada 1200 and its rivals, the BMW R1200GS, KTM 990SMT and Triumph Tiger.
The Ducati manages be almost as much fun as the KTM as a sportbike, almost as good as the Triumph as a commuter and close to the BMW in touring and off-road. The fact that it can do so well at so many tasks where the competitors are really niche specialists (KTM sports, Triumph sports and commuting and the BMW touring and off-road) lends credence to Ducatis 4 bikes in 1 claim.

Indeed. It’s very close to it’s competitors in each different class! But if you should score it overall than I think the Multistrada wins it.
To me this is a begining of a new type of bike. Like my dealer say’s : years ago Renault introduced the Espace. No one knew what it was exactly. And now all you see are mpv’s
MCN really needs to investigate the use of pop filters and different microphones when they are filming “on location”. The wind and noise intrusion is very irritating and will the smallest of effort, it could be significantly reduced or even eliminated. Stop trying to get by on the cheap with your home video camera and used some professional video equipment – something that will match your obviously professional journalist credentials.
all true Craig, but their videos have really improved from when they first started!,
@rhino. All true except the Japanese really invented the Universal Motorcycle in the early 80′s. Ducati seems to be the first to try a whole new, tech filled take on it
Yes , but one could argue that the hippie VW bus was the first MPV
And renault toke it to the next level. Like Ducati now…
Al Ducati has to do for 2011 is introduce a true touring machine and continiue the ST line…
I hope they will some day for that is the type of bike i’ll be moving on to from my MTS 1200.
But I have years to go on that (knock on wood)
@ rino
No need for the ST with the new multi being out. What I wish ducati would develop is another supersport: an aircooled sportbike I can take to the track and is comfortable enough I can ride on the streets for more than thirty minutes.
O I would’nt compare a MTS with an ST.
A true touring bike offers far more protection than the MTS.
And with some practise you’ll be able to ride +30 minutes on the 848 or 1198.
