Wallpaper Wednesday: Ducati 916 Senna
Welcome to Wallpaper Wednesday. Every week I will post up something beautiful from the world of Ducati that you just might like to have grace your desktop. This week we have the lovely, limited edition 1997 Ducati 916 Senna.
Aryton Senna was a Ducati fan (he rode a Ducati 851) and agreed to a series of limited edition 916 models only a few months before his death. The first 1995 Senna model was basically a 916 Strada with a few SP pieces on the chassis such as an Ohlins rear shock, cast iron floating discs and an aluminum rear sub frame. Smatterings of carbon dressed up the dark gray color scheme with red wheels. The Senna II was released in 1997. This model as in the photos was of a lighter gray and lacked the carbon fiber exhaust wrap. Although produced in relatively small numbers (902) it hasn’t proven to be as sought after as many expected primarily due to it not being particularly exclusive and not offering any substantive performance gain over the base model.

The final 999R produced 150bhp from its 999cc engine. In keeping with recent trends towards acknowledging Ducati customers’ desire for more comfort with models such as the Multistrada 1200, the 999LE features clip-ons 15mm (0.6″) higher and foot-pegs 10mm (0.4″) lower than the original bike. The unique color dubbed ‘Imola Platinum’ harks back to the silver 750SS racer that Paul Smart famously took to victory 1972 at Imola. It is not dissimilar to the color of the limited edition Ducati 916 Senna. [...]
