Ducshop’s Difficult Daytona
Ducshop Racing had a successful, though turbulent, debut at this weekend’s 200 AMA Pro Racing Daytona SportBike race at Daytona International Speedway. Taylor Knapp replaced an injured Jake Holden and with little more than 30 minutes of practice time finished ninth while Italian rider Dario Marchetti brought the second Ducshop Ducati 848 home in 18th place.
The team looked promising during the first practice session with Holden running consistent 51s in practice, which would have placed him with the race front runners but he was forced from contention after crashing and breaking his thumb in Friday morning’s practice. Fortunately the Ducshop team was able to repair the damaged 848 and recruit Taylor Knapp for the race. With just 14 laps of qualifying Knapp was poled 22nd while Marchetti held his own in 31st.
With so little time to set up the unfamiliar bike, and sporting an injured neck after a tumble competing in Roebling Road’s CCS race two weeks ago, Knapp started the 57-lap race well, working his way from the sixth row to compete in a three-way battle for eighth place finally finishing ninth. Marchetti, having taken two second place finishes in the AHRMA Sounds of Thunder and Battle of the Twins races the week before, ran a strong and steady 18th.
