Ducati to Trellis Frame – Ciao
Ducati Planning Short Stroke Monocoque Chassis Superbike for 2011?
An article appearing in an Italian newspaper has appeared on a Ducati forum claiming that the company plans to introduce a Ducati with an extremely short stroke 1198cc V-twin mounted in an aluminum monocoque frame inspired by the Ducati Desmosedici GP10 for the 2011 season.
The article claims the new superbike will be tested in the summer and enough units will be produced for Superbike homologation for the 2011 season. Recently Ducati has filed patents for its novel monocoque chassis as it has appeared in its MotoGP racer in carbon fiber and aluminum form. Ducati will need to update the 1198 if it is to remain competitive in the future against the Japanese and now European 4 cylinder machines.
The factory will also be deploying a new clutch for the upcoming Portimao round of the championship, similar in concept to that of the MotoGP racer in an attempt to gain more stability under braking.
The article is attached but note that no sources are provided. If your Italian is better than mine (wouldn’t be hard!) please offer up a translation.

Well I speak the most Italian, so
I’ll be your escort. Donowitz speaks
the second most, so he’ll be your
Italian cameraman. And Hirschberg
third most, so he’ll be Donnys
assistant.

I don’t speak Italian.

Like I said, third best. Just keep
your “F”‘ing mouth shut. In fact why
don’t you start practising, right now.
Well, looks a lot like the old Vincent idea.
But i do think the crank- cases are going to be the weak link.
Any accident might crack the mounts?

Good point Captain. Could make for an expensive tip off!!
