Daytona 200 Race Results
The 2010 AMA Pro Daytona Sportbike season kicked off with the annual running of the Daytona 200. The full results are after the jump.
Steve Rapp took third for Ducati in the 2010 running of the world famous Daytona 200 race showing the Ducati 848 will be a competitive force this season in the Daytona Sportbike championship. Kudos though to young and impressive Georgia teenager, Josh Herrin, who showed a maturity beyond his years to win the grueling race. Dane Westby took second ahead of Rapp.
The race lasted just a few turns before a red flag flew when two separate incidents took out a number of riders, including Martin Cardenas. That had some worried that it would turn into an error-ridden affair along the lines of last year’s 200, but the restart didn’t take long, and things ran relatively smoothly after that.

Danny Eslick, 2009 series champion on a Buell, took 4th on a Suzuki this year to show his pace was not just 1,125cc related. Privateer, Shawn Higbee also impressed in 8th on his Buell 1125R. Team Ducshop finished well in 9th, considering that their rider was replaced at the last minute due to injury. Their’s was another Ducati that in practice at least had the measure of the 4 cylinder machines. Substitute rider Taylor Knapp brought the bike home in 9th despite only 14 laps of practice and a neck injury whilst teammate Dario Marchetti managed 18th. Bobby Fong who impressed last year took 13th on another Ducati.
Herrin 1st:- “I was expecting Dane to catch me, just because I was stressing so bad about dropping the bike, that I wasn’t going to make it around. When I saw the pit board give me a little bit more of a gap, it was kind of a relief to be able to just relax and do my own pace and concentrate on getting to the checkered flag safe. It was a really awesome race, uneventful like Steve said. I couldn’t really ask for anything more.”
Rapp 3rd:- “The Ducati was awesome. George Latus is the owner of the team, and he basically formed this team last year. It was their first year. We put a crew together, some experienced guys, some new people, a good bike, a good platform to start with, and it was pretty good to be able to get on the podium.”
