Rossi Races Red

blogSpan thumb Rossi Races RedMotoGP GOAT (Greatest of all time), Valentino Rossi, had a spin on 4 wheels just to show any remaining doubters how talented he is in all forms of motor sport. Rossi is pretty handy in a rally car and the reigning and 9 time motorcycle champion impressed in a Ferarri F1 car in 2008 but this time got close to the outright lap record in his latest Ferrari F1 test.

Showing just how incredibly fast F1 cars are Rossi lapped the Ferrari F2008 racer some 30 seconds faster around the Mugello circuit than he can manage on a MotoGP bike, stopping the clock at 1:21.900. This compares very favorably with Kimi Raikkonen’s lap record of 1:21.67 set in the same car.

“We kept the last three quarters of an hour to try a ‘time attack’ with little petrol and fresh tyres. I would have given anything for such a lap time.” Rossi said that he had much more fun compared to his last experience in Mugello in November 2008. “It’s more fun here, because it’s a little bit easier. It’s more effort in Mugello, but this track here is really wonderful, with motorbikes and cars, although I have to say that turn 10 is a little tight (the one with the spins) and you’re braking much later.”

Yamaha team manager Davide Brivio tried to defuse the coming war over Rossi with Ducati by playing up Ferrari as the real threat, but few are buying it.

“The greatest danger is Ferrari… I have to be worried about these excellent times because Valentino really could get the desire to change sport.”

Rossi has left it too late to switch to F1 by his own admission and seems hell bent on smashing Giacomo Agostinis record of 122 GP victories.
