Ducati Desmosedici 800 Roadster on the Horizon?

new ducati desmosedici thumb Ducati Desmosedici 800 Roadster on the Horizon?Ducati could be considering a $100,000, carbon framed 800cc follow-up to the wildly successful 2008 Desmosedici RR, which was based on the 2006 GP6 MotoGP race bike, the last 990cc model before the switch the current 800cc regulations. With the spec scheduled to return to 1,000cc in 2012, the changing of the guard could herald another über trick halo model. This time expect it to be very pricey.

Ducati was reportedly pleasantly surprised by demand for the Desmosedici, so much so that the original run of 300 was expanded to 1500.

Ducati believes the switch away from the unloved 800s renders the GP replica concept valid again, and debate centres around whether a suitable amount of time has elapsed since the original 197bhp/171kg D16RR for the new bike to create sufficient impact.

Ducati acknowledged at the time the D16RR was a proof of concept for such a low volume, high price product and that the factory wanted to continue to move up market. The Desmosedici RR was priced at $72,500 in the USA but the new model would likely be priced higher, perhaps as much as $100,000, given the robust demand for the last model. The most expensive current model is the 2010 Ducati 1198R Corse Special Edition at $39,995.

  1. make it a 600 V-4 17,000 RPM that is competitive with current 600′s.. priced like a 848. Now that would sell IMO

  2. I’d buy one Dave. Sadly I think the price will be a tad higher :)
