Haga 2nd Fastest, Spies 7th in First Portimao Superbike Session

Noriyuki Haga started as he needs to today in the first free practice session in the final round of the 2009 World Superbike Championship at Portimao, Portugal. Haga was 2nd fastest in the opening session less than 1/10th behind fast qualifier Jacob Smrz also on a Ducati.

Fellow title contender and qualifier extraordinaire Ben Spies was 7th fastest with Michel Fabrizio, Haga’s teammate right behind in 8th. Haga leads the title chase by 10 points and and likely needs to win at least one race to be crowned champion.
