Ducati Strada Aperta Unmasked and it’s Bad

7471ec0218 thumb Ducati Strada Aperta Unmasked and its BadLess than a month before the official unveiling of the new 2010 Ducati Strada Aperta, the first renderings of the bike without camouflage have flooded the web. The verdict? Ugly!

stradaperta uff 1 thumb Ducati Strada Aperta Unmasked and its BadThe proboscis is the feature that doesn’t just draw the eye but reaches out and grabs it in these first, supposedly semi-official photos (whatever that means). There is no way to describe it except to use the ugly word and ducatinewstoday hopes that it’s suspicion from the last batch of spy photos was correct in that the snout will not in fact feature on the final machine and these photos are a diversion (please be right, please be right).

Chat on the interwebs from wannabe owners who seem to be coming from the Ducati ST4 and Multistrada ranges suggest that dealers who claim to have actually seen the bike in finished form are impressed with it. Assuming they aren’t blind then this probably isn’t exactly what the bike will look like come November 10th and the EICMA Milan motorcycle show.

  1. That is plain and simple, busted arse ugly.

  2. Well that’s um, interesting.

I sure hope that’s not the final version. I was hoping for more of a “touring 1098″ or even a “touring Hypermotard” kind of look based on the previous spy shots. This shot makes the current Multistrada look pretty good. :-/

  3. Yes who would have thought that the objective was to make the Multistrada look good! I have to stand by my analysis of the most recent Spyshots that suggest to me that the snout is not part of the final bike

  4. Better let the GS-guys buy beamers instead of making such ugly bikes.

  5. I agree

That one fell from the ugly tree and hit every branch on the way down.

Mark – glad to see your not totally biased with “Ducati designers are gods” :-)

  6. Bad is a good word to describe it. Awful, terrible, or hideous would work well too. Yech.

  7. @Dave you are right, I was trying to be polite!

  8. @Richard, I dislike fanboys so I am happy to criticize Ducati when they need to take a good look at themselves in a room full of mirrors!

  9. Yes, initial looks, it is pretty bad. Although, in typical Italian styling they are way ahead of the curve. While the v-storms and GS’s will look like they came out of an army surplus yard in 10 years, this bike, like all Ducati’s will age very well. IMHO

  10. Ah, I rather like it. But then I liked (and still like) the Multistrada and am one of those ‘wannabe owners’ who ordered one back in January. My money’s still on the line for it, based on these…

  11. I have to admit I am perplexed. These bikes are always interesting-looking that’s what makes them cool. I ride a Multistrada and think it looks excellent. It blows away the BMW, Aprilla, Triumph, Versys, V-strom etc in the looks department. I don’t think there is even another bike in this class I would ride due to excessive-ugliness. The Aperta looks like a Hyper-Multi cross.

  12. Proboscis monkey on wheels?

It looks like a fake/diversion to me; the snout appears to protrude more in the lower photo. Someone’s taking the piss.
