Ducati Promises New Model Surprises for 2010
As we approach the EICMA Motorcycle show next month in Milan, the rumor mill is stepping up as to what models Ducati will unveil for the 2010 model year. The Ducati Multistrada / Strada Aperta have been well uncovered and the Ducati Hypermotard 796 has already been formally announced but Ducati claim they have some surprises in store when they will unveil a significant amount of new products at a press conference prior to the show – including ones that have not yet been subject to media speculation!!
In communications to the press, Ducati are signaling they have more in store than what the various spy photos and rumor sites have uncovered or speculated upon. All will be revealed at a Ducati press conference in Milan on November 9th. Looking back on the year, perhaps we shouldn’t be surprised.
As early as July when the company confirmed the existence of their new Adventure tourer, marketing executive Diego Sgorbati also hinted that there would be quite a few surprises and multiple new models at the Milan show..
Even earlier, in January 2008, Ducati announced it would launch 10 new models by 2010 and subsequently proceeded to roll out the Monster 696, 848 and 1098 ranges in 2008 and followed that up with the Monster 1100, Streetfighter and 1198 this year.
For 2010 we know about the formally announced Hypermotard 796 and anticipate the unveiling of the new Adventure tourer which is expected to be coined the Strada Aperta (Open Road) although some believe the Multistrada badge will be used once again (there is some indication that Ducati themselves haven’t decided yet!).
That leaves room for 2 more models. What can they be? Ducati News Today has it’s own ideas which we will shortly share but why don’t you have your say in the comments.
What 2 other models do you believe (or desperately want) Ducati to introduce next month? What do you think? Chime in with your views in the comments section below and stay tuned for Ducati News Today’s predictions.

If Ducati made a 600 I’d buy 2. Something like a fairing-ed monster, where the ergos aren’t too harsh. I’d kill for something like this.
There’s something in Ducati Vyper idea that really would like to see. Idea about good handling and accelerating Ducati cruiser just feels very exciting!
I would really like to see a dual purpose bike with the 696 engine with some off-road capabilities!
Hey I wonder if there is a new Super Sport in the offering?! A 696 and 1100 version would be very sweet!
LJM – it makes sense that they would, after all they did offer a Multistrada 620 for a while…
I’d really like to see what a Ducati scooter looks like
How about a big sport tourer, yamaha fj style! Full fairing with bag option!
Let’s see…
New Hypermotard 1100 Evo with new version of 1100 mill. ABS on the 696 and new 1198R. Oh, and red frame comes back to 1198.
That’s my guess…
I think Ducati might upgrade the Monster 696 with the engine used in the new Hypermotard 796.
Come on! what about these “Ducati News Today’s predictions.”
@Lauri – the predictions come next week along with a summary of what we know is going to be at the Milan show, the rumor round up and our predictions
I think ducati will launch a 800 superbike 4 cyl, just like in moto gp,
and second I believe a supersport based on the new 796 engine.
One of the two surprises left : a Custom ! this is more than a rumor … Ducati tells about 796 and gives spyshots about new multistrada1200 to hide the big news !
I’m probably going to buy a Monster 1100(s) in the next year. The model I would be most interested in as an alternative would be a StreetFighter 848. The StreetFighter appeals to me a lot, but I want an easy, fun, sporty standard-commuter-all-arounder, and the 1098 engine is just a little too much power, cost, insurance, etc. 125+ hp would be plenty of juice for me. And $12,495 would be a nice price point.
Although I realize a SuperSport would also be a lot of fun.
@Jett I think a Streetfighter 848 would be a pretty good machine at a fine price.
To Jett,
I have the M1100, and had the SF for 24 Hours a month ago, as far as I see it: the Monster will keep you out of jail for a while longer and is a lot more agile when in very slow traffic.
Apart from that, you will never be innocent again after coupling with the SF, every corner is a potential for public disturbance, there is no such thing as cruising with the SF.
On the other hand, if you pick the M1100s and add the full system with ECU, some owners replace the front sprocket from 15T to 14T, reports suggests that this is a killer bike.
For me a very light weight motard would be a kill.
I would like to see the Vyper and the return of the ST (more sport touring rather than adventure touring). Nothing wrong with a slightly more comfy Duc!
Roger, I think the new Multistrada 1200 is going to serve as the ST replacement for now.
