Lorenzo Announcement to be Made at Indy
Jorge Lorenzo’s manager has said that the Spanish MotoGP star is close to a decision about staying at Yamaha or moving to Ducati with the announcement expected at the Indy MotoGP next weekend.
According to Lorenzo’s manager, Marcos Hirsch, the choice is now between staying at Yamaha or moving to Ducati now that an option for Honda has been ruled out.
Hirsch commented, “Until the middle of this week we were still ticking off the boxes and finalising the offers. We are getting close to concluding our evaluation of the pros and cons of the offers and we acknowledge that now is the right moment to make a decision.”
Hirsch stated that the winning manufacturer would likely make an announcement at the Indianapolis MotoGP int eh USA to be held next weekend, August 30th.
The rider’s manager added that sporting factors would be the key to the decision, commenting, “money is important but it is at the bottom of our list of priorities.”

This site has argued that Ducati must sign Lorenzo to protect against a situation where Casey Stoner does not return or is unable to continue racing for the win. Ducati has also to decide whether or not to exercise it’s option on Nicky Hayden for another year by September 1st. Casey Stoner has a signed contract for 2010 already.
ducatinewstoday see it this way. If Lorenzo signs with Ducati then Ducati will exercise it’s option for Hayden only if it has a reason to believe Stoner will not return. Another possibility is to try to keep Hayden on the Pramac team with the ability to move back to the factory squad if Stoner is out for 2010 but Hayden may not consider this attractive.
If Lorenzo does move then it increases the chances that we will see Ben Spies in MotoGP next year on a Tech 3 Yamaha.
In any event, Nicky Hayden’s best move is to finish on the podium at Indy to maximize his options for 2010. Roll on next weekend!!
