Hayden Shines in the Rain during MotoGP Practice at Indy
MotoGP at Indy carried on from where it left off at the inaugural race last year by raining hard enough to keep the fastest MotoGP time slower than the fastest 125 during the first Free Practice session moments ago. Dani Pedrosa set the fastest time of 1’51.5 ahead of crowd favorite Nicky Hayden who blasted into second with literally seconds to spare.
Hayden had been in 8th place before putting in a blinder as the checkered flag was waved to claim 2nd. Nicky is doing everything he can to keep his job at the factory Marlboro Ducati team despite lack luster results so far this season and the factory shopping his ride (so far unsuccessfully) to Lorenzo, Capirossi and Pedrosa. Mika Kallio, factory Ducati stand in for Casey Stoner who is recovering from a mystery illness, posted the 11th fastest time.
Valentino Rossi grabbed the third fastest time in the dying seconds after sitting out the first half of the session. Rain came down just as the MotoGP machines left the pits making it difficult for the riders to set up their bikes or put down a good time.
Practice and Qualifying continues tomorrow.
