Régis Laconi to Hang up his Leathers for Good?

Laconi Vert thumb11 Régis Laconi to Hang up his Leathers for Good?Reports are suggesting that DFX Ducati Superbike rider Régis Laconi will retire following his crash during practice for the Kyalami round of the World Superbike Championship during which he fractured several cevical vertebrae. Laconi had been showing good pace on his customer Ducati 1098R this season and narrowly failed to win the championship in 2004 when he lost out to James Toseland in the final round.

Following the crash, Laconi was placed into a pharmacological coma prior to a successful operation to stabilize his two fractured vertebrae and to remove a bone fragment close to his spinal column. Miraculously, there was no neurological damage and the 34 year old returned to France for a long convalescence. It seems that the major incident has led the Frenchman to re-consider his career and he may be erring on the side of quitting while he is ahead since he was very lucky to escape permanent disability. Lorenzo Lanzi is currently standing in for him finishing 14th and 11th in the races at Donington Park.
