Would Ducati Build the Desmofighter?
Prolific motorcycle designer Oberdan Bezzi is at it again! This time he has envisioned a bike to make the Yamaha V-Max wilt and the Ducati Streetfighter cower. Bring on the V-4 Ducati Desmofighter!
Oberdan Bezzi is an Italian designer with a particular passion for motorcycles. His spectacular modern interpretation of the classic TT1&2 racers, the Ducati TT1000, is a stunningly beautiful motorcycle.
This time he has turned his attention to the flavor of the month, naked sportsbikes as in the Ducati Streetfighter. The Streetfighter is hardly lacking in performance packing the 1,099cc 1098 making a claimed 155bhp but the Desmofighter 989R is based on the MotoGP6 based Ducati Desmosedici V-4 powerplant!
Bezzi doesn’t need to be practical and it is hard to imagine who needs a 200bhp MotoGP based powerplant in naked road bike but sure does look pretty. Clearly inspired by the Streetfighter (the tank), there are also elements present from the Aprilia Tuono (headlight fairing) and of course the tail section from the D16RR itself.
This machine if it was to be built would blow the Streetfighter away and swat the heavy Yamaha V-Max aside. Alas, Bezzi, though he is a motorcycle designer, is not employed by Ducati so most of his sketches are destined to remain only on paper or pixels. You can peruse the rest of his work on his MotoSketches Blog where you can find among other things an 848 powered Ducati HyperMotard!
