2479195210 992a51ea3e o thumb Wallpaper Wednesday: 2006 Ducati Supersport 1000 DSMany of the Ducatisti lamented the passing of the Supersport range which can trace it’s power plant back as far as the Ducati 500 Pantah of the early 1980′s. The air-cooled 1,000cc dual spark (hence the DS) engine offered a bike that harked back to the bevel drive Ducati Supersport heritage emphasizing lazy mid-range power over the high bhp adrenaline hit of the modern 4-valve machines and a chassis simplicity that promised sporty handling that was more than enough for the street. The styling was clearly influenced by designer Pierre Terblanche’s Ducati Supermono masterpiece. Many fans wonder whether Ducati will introduce a new Supersport range utilizing the Monster 1100 as base.

  1. Cheers Mark. I’ve really enjoyed riding my SS100DS for all of the reasons that you mentioned. I was unaware of the Supermono, and glad to learn of this fascinating machine and the link to the late Supersport.
