Régis Laconi was Smoking Fast Moments Before Crash
French World Superbike racer, Régis Laconi, who is slowly recovering from a horrific crash in practice at the Kyalami round of the series in South Africa was traveling 12mph faster than other Ducati riders moments before he slammed into a wall.
Datalogging equipment indicates that Laconi was traveling about 12mph faster than other Ducati riders just before his crash that resulted in a fractured C3 and C5 veterbrae in his neck. Following surgery, he is now able to have short conversations and has full use of his limbs according to his friend and manager Paul-Louis Collignon but it seems a full recovery is still a long way off.
But it sounds as though Regis is still struggling to sort things out in the grey matter at the moment because Collignon says that multi-lingual Laconi keeps switching between french, italian and english without pauses in the languages as he talks.

Laconi recently returned to Aix-en-Provence,France where he currently resides and doctors have cleared him to complete his convalescence at home.
Laconi’s speech is back to normal and his medium to long-term memory is gradually returning. He has already expressed a desire to return to the track, but any eventual decision must be subordinate to a careful reappraisal by the competent medical and sporting authorities after his full recovery.
