When you switch to racing Ducatis, a very few gain access to the customer racing RS models but a true factory machine is the rarest of all. A bike prepared by the factory for a world class rider in a major world or significantly important domestic championship. Such a machine is the Ducati 999F06, the former number 1 bike of British Superbike Star Gregorio Lavilla, identical to Troy Bayliss’ 2006 World Superbike Championship winner.

During the period when the factories were disenchanted with the World Superbike series direction when it first switched to a control Pirelli tire, the most exotic superbike racers in the world could be found in the British Superbike championship (BSB). HRC Hondas did battle with full factory Ducatis that were identical to those in the World Championship. As a result the BSB was the pinnacle of racing where wild card riders from that series would often win convincingly in the British World Superbike rounds.

Spanish star Gregorio Lavilla looked to be all washed up as a Superbike racer at the end of 2004, his career seemingly ending as a Suzuki test rider and sometime wild card rider. However he re-ignited his career with a stunning debut victory in the 2005 BSB series.

His victory in the 2005 British Superbike Championship was a major surprise, especially because he had never raced in the championship full-time before, and only got his ride a few days before the season started [1], initially to replace the injured James Haydon in the Airwaves Ducati team. He started so strongly that the team chose to retain him. He soon established himself ahead of team-mate Leon Haslam, and the main rival to the Honda bikes, before a run of 6 wins and 5 second places in the final 11 races saw him take the crown.

Lavilla returned to the series on this factory Ducati 999F06 in 2006 failing to win the championship despite 8 wins and 10 podium finishes. Although the 999 series was greeted with howls of derision by the Ducatisti and was never a sales success, few can argue the machine isn’t a stunner in race form, especially the factory machines.

A Norwegian Ducatista purchased this machine directly from the Airwaves Ducati now fitted with a 2007 model year factory engine along with many spares and had it painted in Xerox colors like the identical machine that Troy Bayliss rode the same year.

He has reluctantly put it up for sale and it comes complete with a fair amount of spares including spare engine, several fairing sets, spare wheel sets, front and rear stands, engine starter, flight case to be used when transporting the bike (used to be Steve Martin’s when he was with Foggy Petronas Racing), front and rear subframe etc. etc. etc.

In addition to this, the bike comes with all its telemetry and accompanying software apart from the traction control system licensed by Ferrari. An alternative traction control system (software) has been installed instead.

Technical info and manuals on how to start and operate the bike are included.
