Texan, Ben Spies has equalled fellow American, Doug Polen’s 1991 record of 6 consecutive Superpoles in a row by claiming pole for tomorrows Kyalami, South Africa round of the World Superbike Championship. Spies has a way to go though to claim Polen’s record that still stands from his 1991 rookie season of 14 fastest laps in a single season!!

This is an awesome performance for the rookie Yamaha rider although it should be pointed out that the Superpole system until this year was a single flying lap with the rider alone on the circuit as opposed to the system that is now in force.

Michel Fabrizio, clearly confident following his maiden victory at Monza qualified second fastest, just 1/1000 of a second behind. Series Leader Noriyuki Haga will start on the front row from 4th on the grid.
