Stoner Fastest on Day of Night Testing
Marlborough Ducati’s Casey Stoner took to the track for the first time today during the second day of the 2009 MotoGP official night testing at Losail, Qatar. Stoner had elected to sit out the first day which was marred by rain. Stoner posted the quickest time of 1’57.139 ahead of Valentino Rossi (Fiat Yamaha) but the times were about 3 seconds off the lap record held by Rossi’s teammate, Jorge Lorenzo. Although fastest, just as in Sepang, Stoner spent a limited amount of time on the track at one time.
Stoner only undertook five or six lap bursts – and a total of 37 laps – as he debuted a new swingarm and tested the condition of his troublesome left wrist.
Colin Edwards (Tech3 Yamaha) continued his strong recent run with 3rd fastest whilst Dani Pedrosa (Repsol Honda) crashed aggravating his existing knee injury. Pedrosa did not take part in the Sepang test.
The official night testing concludes with day 3 on Tuesday evening.
