Stoner Clean Sweeps Pre-season Testing with BMW M award
Marlboro Ducati’s Casey Stoner added a BMW 135i special edition to his car collection as the prize for winning the BMW M Award challenge as part of the final official test session for the 2009 MotoGP series. Stoner’s win here means he has been fastest at every test.
Despite concerns over his ability to be competitive over full race distances due to a niggling wrist injury, Stoner has been consistently fastest at Sepang, Losail and now Jerez. Stoner lapped in 1″38.646, comfortably inside the lap record but 1/2 a second slower than the fastest non-race lap set last year by Yamaha’s Jorge Lorenzo. Valentino Rossi finished in 2nd spot with the surprisingly competitive Suzuki’s of Loris Capirossi and Chris Vermeulen in 3rd and 5th respectively. Jorge Lorenzo finished 4th fastest.
Satellite Ducati racers Mika Kallio and Sete Gibernau impressed in 6th and 8th places whilst Nicky Hayden continues his difficult transition to the Ducati factory team with the 11th fastest lap calling into question the confidence his team manager has in his ability to master the notoriously difficult to ride Ducati.
