09 mladin 01 thumbashx1 Quelle Surprise: Mladin wins Daytona SuperbikesShrugging off the unpopular rule changes that resulted in slower machines this year for the debut of the American Superbike class, Rockstar Makita Suzuki lead rider Mat Mladin won the 50 mile, 15 lap race at Daytona this afternoon by a margin of 1 second. The excitement came in the photo finish for second where the popular Neil Hodgson (Corona Extra Honda) took second place from Mladin’s teammate Tommy Hayden.
Ducati North America supported Larry Pegram came home in 4th after starting from 3rd on the grid and showed his Ducati 1098R was competitive in this new racing class. Earlier in the week, Pegram’s Ducati had been clocked at in excess of 199 mph on the long Daytona banking.
