Even as the Streetfighter is being launched, the Ducatista are being teased with another potential model, the Ducati Vyper which appears to be an entrant into the burgeoning power cruiser market perhaps exemplified best by the Harley Davidson V-Rod and and the Yamaha V-Max.
Just days after the Australian Ducati importer, Warren Lee, confirmed the existence of the rumored Ducati Adventure tourer, it looks as if his comments are turning out to be prescient. Mr Lee spoke of Ducati scooters and a power cruiser as possibilities for the next models in the burgeoning Ducati range.
Lee said that if Ducati produced a cruiser, it would be a “high-powered, good-handling” machine. “The cruiser segment plateaued last year. The baby boomer market is dying out,” he said. “Is it any wonder a major cruiser manufacturer (Harley) last year bought a sportsbike manufacturer (MV Agusta)? “As time goes on people will become more interested in performance.”
Now Spain’s Motociclismo has posted pictures of a Power Cruiser called the Ducati Vyper that appears to be based on the Streetfighter which is being launched this week in Spain. In 2007, Ducati announced it would launch 10 new models over 3 years. In 2008 Ducati launched the 848 and 1098R sportsbikes and the Monster 696, while this year it is releasing the Monster 1100, 1198 superbike and the naked Streetfighter. It is looking as if 2010 will see the Adventure Tourer, the Vyper and what else?
