Stoner has been suffering continual pain in his wrist following an operation last November to repair an old scaphoid injury.

Scaphoid injuries are notorious for taking a long time to heal. The trouble seems to be bad enough for Stoner to consider withdrawing from the 2009 championship race before it evens begins.

The 2007 world champion says that unless the wrist improves over the next fortnight his ability to contest the series will be under a cloud.

Ironically, Stoner set the fastest lap time at the official testing in Sepang, Malaysia only days ago. Despite his fast one lap time at Sepang, Stoner was not able to complete long sessions that would be closer to a full race distance.

ducatinewstoday will continue to follow this developing story.
