Ben Spies Talks about World Superbikes
At the Thursday Press Conference preceding the first round of the 2009 World Superbike Championship at Phillip Island, Ben Spies talked about his impressive pace in pre-season testing. Spies was modest, pointing out that now he has to race 10 guys every weekend instead of one, in a reference to his 1 on 1 battles with Matt Mladlin in the AMA Superbikes series over the last few years.
Ben also pointed out that just because he can run near the front in testing isn’t necessarily a portent for the racing that commences this weekend at the spectacular Phillip Island circuit.
“It’s not so hard to get up front in testing and throw some laps in and loo good. It’s what you can do in the last 8 laps of the race.”
